Artistic Journeys

April Ward is an award-winning Australian photographer known for blending the real and unreal in her contemporary photography. Her intuitive images explore themes of isolation, fragility, and strength, offering symbolic and psychological depth.

With over thirty years behind the lens, a Bachelor of Arts in Film and Television, and recognition in prestigious awards such as the Moran Contemporary Photographic Portrait Prize, The London Gala Awards, The Olive Cotton award, The Pollux Awards, The AIPP awards, PX3, and the IPA Award, April’s honest, documentary-style work stands out in both Australian and international photography scenes.

Coming from analogue beginnings in the highly controlled world of advertising and product photography, she now chooses not to overly crop, enhance or manipulate her work. Her images are intuitive, simple and honest, and are a blend of documentary and cinematic expression.

April is currently collating her extensive body of work and has just embarked on her producing limited edition fine art prints of her contemporary photographs from her personal collection into 'Shades of April'.
